Phases: A Moon Ring
![]() |
| This is a big ring! I wanted to make a bearing-set cabochon ring, and had a few moonstones that seemed perfect for the project. The design I had in mind, though, meant that the ring's band was very wide indeed... and that's often not comfortable to wear for long. I decided to cut out shapes along the band to depict the phases of the moon, with the moonstone itself- oval as it is- standing in for the full moon, and the cut-outs depicting the dark portions.
Drafting this to fit the band well, and to compensate for the distortion that happens when a piece of sheet is formed into a circle, were tricky but fun challenges, and I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. Sterling silver, moonstone. Size 6.5. Other dimensions: 0.5 inches wide (13 mm), moonstone: 8 x 6mm. For Sale: $275 US. Please email me for details. While this ring cannot be resized, I would be happy to make you one in your size- email me if you're interested. |
