Lava-bead Fibula
![]() |
| Fibulae are an ancient type of brooch, and have had many variations over the years. The ones I most enjoy are made of one length of wire, worked cold, forged and formed to make an interesting and wearable pin.
This one was inspired by the contrast between the rough-textured, yet delicate lava bead, and the shininess of metal. I used rich low brass (often called "new gold" for the similarity of its color to gold) so it's tarnished a bit, but I like the way it looks now- although I'd love to do one in shiny gold! Rich low brass, lava bead. 2 x 1.5 inches (50 x 34 mm) 2003. NFS. While this particular piece is not for sale, I do have more of the beads and would be happy to make you one! Please email me if you're interested. |
