A small copper box, emblazoned with a hand-cut and carved silver capital "F". This box was inspired by Arts & Crafts metalwork, and by a desire to create a simple but attractive hollow piece for a class I was teaching.

I used heavy sterling for the monogram, because I wanted to create a three-dimensional calligraphic effect on the graceful letter. The sides of the letter are filed at various angles to create a warm and somewhat casual effect. Because of the A&C inspiration, I wanted a hammered texture for the lid; however, soldering the letter down would have risked having silver solder flow into some of the hammer marks, so instead I riveted the monogram down with 3 rivets soldered to the back of the "F".

Copper, sterling silver.
