Hearts are fragile and easily broken... but they do heal in time. This is the first of two locket pendants I made exploring this theme.

This one takes a medical approach. The cracks are bridged by an adhesive bandage of copper, and surgeon's sutures made of fine silver. The cracks have bruising around them, too- it's a phenomenon called "fire scale" that can happen when sterling is heated in an oxygen-rich environment; usually one works hard to avoid this, but in these hearts I encouraged it as fitting to the theme.

This locket can hold a variety of items: traditional pictures or hair, or pads of felt that can hold perfumes or aromatherapy scented oils. See the detail for its opening below.
