The shapes of these forged sterling earrings are based on calligraphic flourishes, while the colors were inspired by Victorian mourning jewelry. The garnets are a simpler cut than is usual today, which accents their deep, rich color. I patinated the silver to darken it, then lightly burnished the color away from the edges to set off the graceful shapes. The finish is matte, as was common with the mourning jewelry.
